A couple of months ago, while running through bustling downtown Hartland (opens in new window), I noticed a new establishment, Zesti (opens in new window). We made it in that evening, but the Chef had just left for the evening. They offered us pizza and salad – which was what we wanted anyway. We vowed to go back to try out the rest. Well, today was that day.
Brunch at Zesti
Their website recommends reservations, I would second that. Fortunately, they are on Open Table which makes the reservation process easy. We didn’t have reservations, but were able to be seated at cozy table in the bar. The atmosphere was pleasant and casual. Sort of a steam punk farm house motif. Lots of brick, concrete and reclaimed wood. We didn’t partake of the specialty Brunch Beverages, the Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar appeared to be very popular.
The dishes on the brunch menu are inspired by chef Michael Feker’s global travels and experiences with each dish named after a country or region (many of their items are available Gluten Free). I had Venice which was a seafood frittata of lobster, shrimp and scallops. What struck me the most when it came out was the portion size – it appeared appropriate. The frittata was not huge, the roasted potatoes consisted of two halves of a small potato, the singular crostini was a bit larger than a silver dollar and the serving of fresh fruit was refreshing. I loaded up my fork with the perfect bite – egg, lobster, shrimp, scallop, and asparagus. Everything cooked to perfection. The frittata was set without being runny or dry. The scallops were fully cooked, not rubbery. The Hollandaise sauce was not clumpy or watery. The roasted potato was seasoned well. And the crostini was crispy but not crunchy – perfect to mop up the sauce. My wife equally enjoyed her California Wrap.
We look forward to going back to trial their complete dinner menu and to have a late night pizza and salad – they have Gluten Free pizza crusts as well.
So How Does This Fit into the Strong Weight Loss Plan
Since Sunday is just once a week, this could easily be your weekly indulgence meal while on active weight loss. The taste and flavors are phenomenal and the portion sizes completely appropriate. I was able to get a taste of bread and potato without completely carb overloading.
