The Mental Battle of Weight Loss
Having the greatest plan isn’t worth a hill of beans if you have poor execution. And executing your plan is all in your head. I tell all of our patients that the #1 belief they should have is that THEY CAN LOSE WEIGHT. At Strong Weight Loss, we have a weight loss method that WILL work if you follow it. But your mind needs to be in the right place to win the Mental Battle of weight loss.
Today I met a patient that said to me, “I’m very skeptical about losing weight.”
To which I started down the road of how we have a tried and true program…
“No,” she interrupted, “I’m skeptical about my motivation. I’m not sure that I really want to work that hard to lose weight.”
That was a new one for me. Granted, I have a no obligation absolutely FREE program start that includes about $300 of product and services, but I’ve never had someone say that they don’t know if they want to work that hard. I know nearly everyone that walks through my door wants to lose weight and I, wrongly, assumed that they were motivated to do so. Why else would they come to my office for a two hour appointment? I often wonder why people don’t come back. The people who do the work, for the most part, are successful. 89% of patients who complete four months in our program have a successful weight loss. (that’s a lot of success-ful).
What about the other 11%?
If my program is so great then why isn’t it 100%. Why doesn’t everyone who sits through my initial program start follow up with me? There are a whole host of reasons, but a large part of it has to do with losing the mental battle. My patient today is questioning whether or not to even step into the ring. In general, losing weight is easy IF you have the right mindset. But it’s not enough to want to lose weight.
Training for the Mental Battle
Okay, I don’t think you can actually train for it, but I wanted to keep up with the analogy.
Everyone has a different trigger to start their weight loss. For me it was the 40″ waistband. I think most of the patients that come to see me are ready and some are on the cusp. For the one’s on the cusp some of them are motivated by something someone in the office had told them. And some of them just say, “Nah, that’s just too much work.”
