Size 40″ pants: The Birth of Strong Weight Loss
I really don’t remember exactly when it occurred, it was somewhere around my last year of pulmonary fellowship. I was out shopping and the 38″ pants were a bit snug. OK, they were too tight, I had a difficult time getting the zipper up. I tried on the 40″ pants… ahhh. That was much better. Then I thought, “Forty inches? That’s 8 inches more than when I graduated high school. When did this happen?” That’s when I decided. I put the pants back and started my weight loss journey. Within a year, I was back to the 32″ waist that I had in high school. I spent the next 10 years yo-yo’ing between 32 and 36″, mostly around 34″. I finally had it with my ups and downs and decided to find the “best” diet to keep the weight off. That’s when I found the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. I went to a couple of conferences and learned a ton about weight loss, and what I was doing wrong for the last ten years. At that time, I had been a practicing physician for 11 years with four board certifications. Now, if I didn’t know all this about weight loss, how was the average Joe, or Jane, supposed to figure it all out. This was how Strong Weight Loss was born. Since I’ve joined the ASBP, I’ve stayed in my 32″ pants and don’t plan on buying anything larger.

Here at Strong Weight Loss I feel SUPER HUMAN! After all, I am the “vampire” for all the blood tests, and I position the “fat melting laser beams” with our Verju Laser System. If only that made me a skinny superhero! But the real details are below:
I am fat, obese really, and I hate it. I have tried many of the fad diets out there and have had some success, and many failures. I saw the most successful in the military. They “run” the fat out of you during boot camp and then you are on your own. Motivation in the military was not optional, which worked well for me. When I left the military, I lost the motivation. I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life. I have a whole list of excuses as to why I am obese, here are just a few: skeletal injuries, prescription medications, college parties, emotional eating, and two pregnancies.
Now, years later I joined the staff at Strong Weight Loss. I felt like a hypocrite working at a weight loss clinic and still being overweight. I listened to Dr. Strong give patients his educational class and I decided that I needed to be a patient too. I knew that I would be a better coach, more empathetic, and provide better care if I had taken the same journey as our patients.
Along the way, I have had my up and downs, but continue to succeed at losing weight and improving my health. My biggest struggles are insulin resistance, stress, and insomnia. In the time since Strong Weight Loss opened its doors, I have lost over 100 pounds and maintained at least 90-92 pounds of that loss. I am still a patient working towards shedding the last 45 pounds.*
In my free time, I enjoy being active in my community. I am the Leader for West Vernon 4-H Club, the Advancement Chair for Boy Scout Troop 229 and can be found at benefits or events supporting numerous community organizations. I have two teenage boys that keep me busy when I am at home, and when I am not! My husband is very supportive of my career and enjoys (that may be pushing it) the benefits of tasting lots of new recipes. I love the outdoors, reading, watching movies and spending time with my family.
I hate getting my picture taken, gag at the thought of eating raisins or cherries, and secretly wish I could carry a tune vocally!
I am currently studying to be a Doctor of Natural Medicine, and recently became a licensed nutritional therapist through the Academy of Health Sciences.

Through the Strong Weight Loss program, recipes, coaching programs, and my own personal weight loss experience, I’m here to teach you how to lose weight the healthy way with concrete behavior changes and easy to follow tips that will help you be successful in your weight loss journey.*

I help our patients tailor the food plan to their personal needs and bust through plateaus with my individual coaching sessions. I run the Wellness Program here at Strong Weight Loss, and some of my personal and modified recipes and photos are featured in the Strong Weight Loss cookbook. I’m currently attending the Academy of Culinary Nutrition to be of better service to our patients and my private clients.
I’m always continuing on my weight loss journey – it doesn’t end when you reach a certain weight. I’ve been struggling with hip arthritis for the past three years, and it has wreaked havoc on my weight loss plan and activity level. The first time it flared up, I gained 35 pounds and didn’t know what to do.When I started at Strong Weight Loss, I also became a patient, and the food plan just made sense. This past year when my arthritis flared again, I was able to stop the weight gain at only 25 pounds, due to my new way of eating. In 2016 I had two total hip replacement surgeries (both sides on different dates) that have allowed me the freedom of movement I crave. I’m ready to get back to my goal weight through exercise and continuing my healthy eating plan. I’m happy to be back on the hiking trails with my husband!
Outside of my job at Strong Weight Loss, I love teaching Moms how to navigate the incredible amount of conflicting information out there about nutrition, healthy eating, and weight loss, and create a healthy life for themselves and their families. I specialize in meal planning and prep, private coaching sessions, and simple cooking instruction for busy families.
I’m also a member of the Pewaukee Chapter of Women Helping Women WINN, a national women’s networking group.
When I’m not helping others change their lives, you can find me camping or watching movies with my husband and kids, and volunteering at the café at my church.
